Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Streams ("Streams," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Streams mobile applications, our websites (including streamsapp.io), and related services (together, the "Services").

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use third-party advertising networks, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.

1. Who we are

Streams is a social app built around topic-based feeds ("Streams"), stories, reactions, comments, and direct messages. For privacy questions, contact us at support@streamsapp.io. More ways to reach us are on our Support page.

2. Information we collect

Account and profile

  • Phone number — used to create and sign in to your account via one-time passcodes (OTP).
  • Name, username, date of birth, bio, and profile photo — provided during onboarding or when you edit your profile.

Content you create

  • Posts (text and photos), stories, comments, reactions, and direct messages.
  • Stream memberships and topic interests you choose inside each Stream.

Device and usage

  • Push notification token — so we can deliver notifications you opt into.
  • Approximate presence / last-active information used for features such as Active Now.
  • Basic product interaction data needed to operate feeds, notifications, and safety tools.

Waitlist and website

  • If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address, optional Stream interest, and optional referral information.
  • Standard server logs (for example IP address, browser type, and request timing) may be processed briefly to operate and secure the website.

3. How we use information

  • Create and authenticate accounts (phone OTP).
  • Provide core features: feeds, stories, messaging, notifications, search, and profiles.
  • Classify posts into Streams and topics (including automated suggestions) so content lands where people expect it.
  • Moderate abuse, enforce our Terms, and keep the community safe.
  • Communicate about the Services, including waitlist invites and important account notices.
  • Improve reliability, performance, and security.

4. How we share information

We share information only as needed to run the Services, comply with law, or protect people. Categories of recipients include:

  • Other users — profile information and content you post or send are visible according to how the product works (for example public posts in a Stream, or DMs to the people you message).
  • Service providers who process data on our behalf:
    • Twilio — phone number for OTP delivery.
    • Cloudinary — hosting for images you upload.
    • OpenAI — post text and/or image references for Stream/topic classification only.
    • Infrastructure providers that host our databases, APIs, and websites (for example our cloud database and hosting platforms).
  • Legal and safety — when we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect Streams, our users, or the public. That includes cooperating with law enforcement and child-protection authorities on child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) reports, as described in our CSAE Policy.

We do not share personal information with third parties for their own advertising.

5. Retention

We keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services. Stories are designed to disappear after about 24 hours. If you delete your account in Settings, we remove or de-identify associated personal data from our primary systems, except where we must retain limited records for security, dispute resolution, or legal obligations (for example abuse reports).

6. Your choices and rights

  • Access and update — edit profile details in the app.
  • Notifications — control push preferences in device settings and in-app settings where available.
  • Delete account — available in Settings; this removes your account and associated content subject to the retention notes above.
  • Waitlist — email support@streamsapp.io to ask us to remove your waitlist email.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law (for example access, correction, deletion, or objection). Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

7. Children

Streams is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

8. Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE)

CSAM and CSAE are banned on Streams. We will remove this material when we become aware of it and cooperate with law enforcement as required by law. Reports: in-app Report, or safety@streamsapp.io. Full policy: streamsapp.io/csae. We may retain limited records of these incidents for legal and safety obligations even after the content is taken down.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a device you trust and keep your phone number secure.

10. International transfers

We may process information in countries other than where you live, including where our providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

11. Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as appropriate.
